Patricia Arias and her husband owned a farm outside National City. At some point, Patricia's husband passed away, much to her heartbreak. Unwilling to remarry, Patricia devoted herself to taking care of the farm, believing she would never have a family again.
Finding and raising Samantha
One day in 1989, Patricia discovered a crashed pod from space near the farm and found a baby girl inside. Moved by how helpless and scared the baby was, Patricia took her in, named her Samantha Arias and raised her as her own daughter. Wanting Samantha to have a normal childhood, Patricia kept her alien heritage a secret, planning to reveal the truth once she turned 18.
As Samantha grew up, Patricia took her swimming on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Unbeknownst to either of them, Samantha was a Kryptonian Worldkiller. From a young age, her nature began manifesting, including doodling the symbol of the Children of Juru. Concerned by this and not wanting Samantha to be taken away, Patricia punished Samantha for exhibiting these urges in an attempt to suppress them, which put them at odds.
When Samantha was 16, Patricia found out she was pregnant. Furious, she berated her daughter for being irresponsible and urged Samantha to terminate the pregnancy so their lives could go on. However, Samantha refused, wanting to keep the baby, so Patricia kicked her out. The two hadn't spoken since and Patricia never even knew the name of her adoptive granddaughter.
Reconnecting with Sam
After not speaking for 12 years, Sam arrived at Patricia's house looking for answers. She invited her inside, and brought the pair some tea. Things were tense between the two, and Patricia asked why she didn't bring Ruby. However, she couldn't remember Ruby's name, and floundered for a moment. Sam, who was aggravated by this, said that her daughter's name was Ruby. Knowing that her lack of knowledge upset Sam, she attempted to apologize by stating that Sam couldn't expect her to remember the name of a girl she had never met. Sam quickly responded by saying that she had assumed she wouldn't want to meet Ruby, seeing as Patricia kicked her out for giving birth to her. Her only response was that Sam made her choice and knew that there would be consequences. Upset, Sam reasoned that she was only a kid, but Patricia believed the moment she became pregnant she was no longer a kid. Sam pressed on this and emphasized that she still needed a support system, which sparked a heated argument. After the argument passed, Patricia asked why Sam came, and the latter asked if anything out of the ordinary had happened to her as a child. Patricia quickly responded with a no, but after Sam asked about her birth mother, and also revealed how she'd become bulletproof, Patricia insisted she follow her.
Patricia led her outside to a barn, where a large object was covered with a tarp. When pulled it back to reveal a pod, Patricia explained that she'd lied about adopting her. She found her in the pod when she was still a baby, and Sam was confused. Patricia said that she was as well, because she didn't know where she was from or who left her in the pod or why. She knew the child was helpless and needed a family, so she took her in and promised to tell Sam when she turned eighteen. However, she was long gone by then. Sam examined the pod and caused it to turn on, much to both of their surprise. To further the surprise, a beacon emerged from the pod which Sam took.
DeathPatricia was stabbed by Reign after confronting her as she tried to reach out to Sam. She was then taken to D.E.O. headquarters where she asked Kara to tell Ruby that she loved her which she promised to do before she died of her injuries.
Patricia was a loving mother and very protective. She only wants the best for her daughter, and was disappointed when her daughter became a teen mother. She was a strict disciplinarian to Samantha and they never got along, punishing her a lot. Their relationship got worse when she was pregnant with Ruby and stopped speaking after that.
