Judaism is a religion with ancient roots practiced by humans in at least four universes: Earth-1, Earth-38, Earth-X, and Earth-Prime. A person practicing Judaism, regardless of their ethnicity, is considered Jewish. Judaism is also an ethnicity; the two are often confused, because most religiously Jewish people are also ethnically Jewish, and vice versa.

Overview

Judaism is based on the worship of the one God. It is rich with mysticism, including artifacts such as the Devarim rags and Seal of Solomon, the latter serving as a holy symbol along with the Star of David. Practitioners of Judaism are forbidden to eat pork, similar to those who practice Islam.

One of the most known holidays of Judaism is Chanukkah (otherwise spelled as Hanukkah), which is celebrated over eight days in early to mid December.

"Mazel Tov" is a common Jewish phrase expressing congratulations, often for special occasions such as weddings and Bah Mitzvahs.

History

Earth-1

Judaism was practiced since the ancient times, back during the era of Devarim mystics, responsible for the creation of powerful artifacts. During the Holocaust of World War II, millions of Jews were persecuted by the Nazi regime, including Felicity Smoak's maternal grandparents. However, the religion has survived throughout many centuries and is still practiced on Earth in the 21st century.

In December, the worshipers celebrate the holiday of Hanukkah, which can sometimes overlap with the Christian holiday Christmas, though Jewish practitioners do not recognize Christmas. Celebration of Hanukkah includes the lighting the of menorah in the evening, which Felicity and Rory Regan do every year.

At funerals of loved ones, it is a Jewish custom for the attendees to throw a handful of dirt on the coffin of the deceased during the burial.

In Judaism, a religious leader is known as a rabbi and is allowed to officiate weddings. Martin Stein was forced to become a rabbi by his father before he could enroll at MIT, allowing him to minister the wedding of Caitlin Snow and Ronnie Raymond. At traditional Jewish weddings, the bride and groom are married under a chuppah.

Earth-X

In the Earth-X universe, when the Nazi regime of the New Reich took over Earth after winning World War II, practitioners of Judaism were persecuted, forced to wear the Star of David to signify their status, and were routinely thrown to concentration camps as if they were criminals. Among such prisoners was Felicity Smoak's Earth-X doppelgänger, whom the Sturmbannführer asked Oliver Queen (who was masquerading as Führer Oliver) to execute, though he refused and helped the woman escape.

With help from the heroes of Earth-1 and Earth-38, a resistance force was able to overthrow the Nazi regime by early 2018, allowing Judaism to be freely practiced again.
