Jean Loring is an attorney and an old friend of the late Moira Queen.

Moira Queen's trial

After Moira Queen admitted involvement in the Undertaking, she was put in prison until her trial in which Jean, a close friend, would represent her. In Moira's pre-trial hearing, Jean inquired the judge about bail, which was denied. Jean and prosecutor Adam Donner then got into an argument about his pursuit of the death penalty for Moira. Afterwards, she and Moira discussed her case with Moira confiding that she wasn’t afraid of death and that she only wished to maintain the good relationship she then had with her children. Moira also implied to Jean that there was more damning information out there that must never be discovered.[1]

Adam Donner offered Moira a plea bargain which Jean advised against. Jean assured Moira that she could successfully plead her case of acting under duress, but Moira wanted to take the deal. However, Oliver and Thea convinced Moira that whatever information was out there would not compromise their relationship so Moira instructed Jean to reject the plea deal.[2]

After Roy Harper was arrested and later released by SCPD, Jean goes to Verdant to talk Thea into breaking up with Roy, believing Thea’s relationship to Roy to be a liability to Moira’s case, though Moira later encouraged Thea to stay with Roy after talking to Jean.[3]

During the trial, Jean conducted her defense of Moira, arguing that Moira acted only because her family was in danger from Malcolm Merlyn. After Adam Donner grilled Thea on the witness stand, Jean told Moira that due to the setback Moira now had to testify, even though Moira was against it due to the harm it would do to her family. Jean was present when Moira told Oliver and Thea of her affair with Malcolm. While waiting outside the courtroom, Jean signaled that the jury might have a verdict and due to the quick nature of the verdict, that Oliver and Thea should prepare for the worst. However, the jury found Moira not guilty on all charges stunning everyone in the courtroom.[4]
