The Church of Amiens is a cathedral in northern France near the battlefield of the Battle of the Somme. The church is the final resting place of Sir Gawain but was heavily damaged due to the fighting in World War I.
History[]
The Church of Amiens was constructed in the 1600s where Sir Gawain was later buried some time after returning from the Crusades with a vial of Christ's blood. His body and shield was hidden within a pillar with floor patterns leading to his location for anyone worthy.[1]
The church was later damaged from the battles of World War I. The Legends arrived in the area during the Battle of the Somme in 1917 looking for Gawain's vial of Christ's blood and enlisted the help of J.R.R. Tolkien. With Tolkien's help in researching the Spear of Destiny, the Legends located Sir Gawain's burial place at the church. Rip Hunter, Ray Palmer, Mick Rory, and Nate Heywood accompanied Tolkien to the church. Mick found a chalice in the church rubble with the proto-Celtic inscription "Follow the outlier, then push further still". They observed three rubies and one emerald in the floor pattern and used the outlier emerald to find a damaged pillar. Nate kicked it in and found Sir Gawain's body with an engraved shield.[1]
Afterwards, Leonard Snart and Damien Darhk confronted the Legends in the church and ambushed them with a contingent of German soldiers. Under fire, Tolkien rubbed a copy of the shield's engraving onto a piece of paper and quickly left the cathedral with the Legends.[1]
