Plot[]

Sebastian visits his mother at the mental institution and has a mother/son conversation with her, but learns that Laurel came to visit Maya. Sebastian tells his mother that he forgives her and leaves the room. Just as Maya lays her head down, Sebastian reappears, but this time he has the skull mask on and kills her.

The Arrow is interrogating a man, asking him if he knows who the man in the skull mask is, but after Felicity conducts a polygraph test, The Arrow learns that the man knows nothing about Brother Blood.

Laurel is at her desk, about to swallow some pills, when she is interrupted by someone, telling her that there is a call waiting for her from the mental institute. After Laurel learns of Maya's death (that the woman's heart gave out on her), she becomes more sure that Sebastian Blood is not at all what he seems, and suspects he might have killed her. Laurel boss, Adam Donner, dismisses her pleas to investigate Sebastian as there is no evidence to implicate the Alderman.

Oliver approaches Roy at Verdant and asks about what happened at the rally. However, Roy claims that he is okay before walking away. He then learns that Laurel wants to talk to the Arrow. The Arrow and Laurel share a tense meeting on a rooftop to discuss Laurel's theories about Sebastian being a shady politician. Oliver is at first reluctant to believe her, as he has publicly supported Sebastian.

At Queen Consolidated, Oliver, Felicity and Diggle discuss Laurel's claim that Sebastian is really not what he seems. They wonder if she is just setting another trap for him. Felicity discovers that there is a file on Sebastian's past at the Starling City Archives, but it isn't digital and you need a key card to get access to it, which an assistant district attorney might have. Laurel meets the Arrow at her apartment, where he asks her to come with him to the city archives. They break into the Archives, but Laurel is shocked to see that Sebastian's file has been cleaned (courtesy of Slade). Laurel returns to her apartment to find Officer Daily waiting for her. He arrests her for possession of a controlled substance once finding the pills she's been using.

At the police station, Laurel desperately tries to explain to her father that it's not as bad as it looks and she's being set up by Sebastian. In light of recent events, however, including stealing his pills, Quentin does not believe her and tells Laurel she has an addition, causing her to break down. Oliver comes to bail Laurel out.

Roy has become very distant lately because of his newfound powers, but he has to tell someone, so he tells and shows Sin. She is shocked at first, but wants to watch his power in action. Sin dresses as a prostitute as bait for the Starling Slasher, a serial killer who murders prostitutes with a dagger. Sure enough, the man picks her up and take her to an empty car lot. Just as he is about to kill Sin, Roy rips the car door off and starts beating him. Sin realizes that if she can't stop Roy, he will kill the man. She intervenes but Roy tosses her aside, though comes to his senses after seeing what he has done. Roy takes the man to the hospital and freaks out on Thea once she shows up. Roy begins to cry once out of sight of Thea and Sin.

Oliver and Laurel return to her apartment to clean up. Suddenly, Oliver is knocked out by the man in the skull mask while Laurel is kidnapped. Oliver later wakes up and learns that Laurel was taken to the Starling Cannery due to the red paint on her apartment walls. When Laurel wakes up in the cannery, she is taunted by a man in the skull mask. As he begins choking her, Oliver arrived and engages the man in the skull mask. The man gets the upper hand and prepares to finish Oliver off when Laurel grabs a spare gun the former dropped and shoots him several times, killing him. They unmask the man to discover that it's Officer Daily, not Sebastian, as Laurel thought. Daily smirks at the two before he dies.

Laurel is taken to the police station, where her father informs her that Daily was behind everything--the shooting of his partner, Lucas Hilton, and the fire at the hospital. Laurel is cleared of all charges, but learns from Adam that she is being fired due to her substance abuse.

Oliver tells Felicity and Diggle that he will not be inclined to believe Laurel in the future because in his eyes, she was wrong about his friend, and the Arrow could have paid Sebastian an unpleasant visit.

Thea informs Oliver of Roy's actions and Oliver decides to confront him.

Sebastian returns to Slade's office to gloat that Laurel is taken care of. Slade is nowhere to be found, only his voice can be heard, telling that he has become tired of his negligence. He appears and takes out Sebastian's security all by himself; Slade puts a sword to Sebastian's throat, takes his own mask off and tells Sebastian that if he should fail him again, he will kill him.

In their usual meeting place, Oliver meets a distraught Roy as the vigilante. The Arrow tells him that the Mirakuru is messing with his head and offers to train him to control it. Roy accepts.

Flashbacks

On the island, Oliver and Sara return to the plane and discuss their next move. Sara suggests they find Slade and the serum, taking up Ivo's offer to go home. Oliver disagrees, bringing up how he killed Shado. Sara insists that Ivo isn't evil, since he protected her and taught her many things. Oliver retorts that the island taught him no one can be trusted.

Later, they have a heart-to-heart conversation about home. Oliver apologizes for inviting her on the Queen's Gambit, but Sara assures him that it is not entirely his fault; in her youth, she had an "embarrassing crush" on Oliver, which Laurel apparently knew about. Sara once snuck out of the house to attend one of Tommy's parties in order spend some alone time with Oliver. However, Quentin and the cops later arrived to shut down the party and Sara was grounded for a month. Shortly after, Oliver and Laurel began dating and Sara believed that Laurel told on her to their father. Thus, getting on the Gambit with Oliver was her way of payback at her sister. When Oliver wonders if Laurel really did such a thing, Sara replies that not everyone is who they seem.

Later, while Oliver is sleeping, Sara takes the radio from him and calls Ivo. When she confronts him over nearly killing her and Shado's death, he insists Sara was never in danger and he didn't plan on hurting anyone. Ivo pleads with Sara to come back to the Amazo, as he needs her. Unsure whether to believe him, she hangs up on him. The next night, Sara calls Ivo again and recalls that when he rescued her, she thought he was her savior. Sara expresses how Ivo made her feel if she was part of something bigger, but now condemns him for experimenting on and torturing his subjects. Ivo loses his temper, calling Sara an "ungrateful bitch", and vows to hunt down, torture, and experiment on her and Oliver. Once again, Sara hangs up on him. She sees Oliver standing behind her and hands him the radio before telling him they have to go and find Slade.
